Outsourcing to Latin America in 2026: Costs, Countries, Models and the Best Providers by Function

Outsourcing to South America, or to Latin America more broadly, has stopped being a software story. In 2026 the functions US companies move there most are finance and accounting, customer support, back office and engineering, in that order of growth, and the providers selling it range from managed BPO centers with a thousand seats to staffing partners that place one accountant on your team. This guide covers what the models are, what each country offers, what it costs by role, how compliance works, and which providers do what. Every figure comes from a provider's own site or from Vintti's published placement data, recorded in September 2026.

Outsourcing to Latin America at a glance

  • Time difference with US Eastern: 0 to 2 hours for Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil; 9 to 13 hours for India and the Philippines
  • Cost of a dedicated finance hire: 60% to 74% below the US fully loaded equivalent on Vintti's placement medians
  • Four models: managed BPO, nearshore staffing, direct recruiting, and your own entity or an EOR platform
  • Primary countries: Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil; Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic for contact centers
  • Providers that publish a price: roughly one in three of the 43 we audited
  • Time to a working hire through a staffing partner: 14 to 21 days; Vintti averages 18

‍

Quick answers

  • What does outsourcing to Latin America mean in practice? Either a provider runs a function for you with its own team (BPO), or a provider recruits a person who joins your team and handles the employment side (staffing), or you hire directly with your own entity or an EOR. Same region, three very different purchases.
  • Which countries? Colombia and Mexico for the widest talent pools on US time; Argentina for senior finance and engineering; Brazil for scale in Portuguese-speaking operations; Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic for contact centers and bilingual support.
  • What does it cost? A dedicated staff accountant runs about $1,650 a month all in against $6,167 in the US; a bookkeeper $1,800 against $4,750. Contact center seats start under $8 an hour at some providers; senior engineers run $5,500 to $8,000 a month through staff augmentation firms.
  • Is it cheaper than India or the Philippines? Usually not per hour. Asia publishes $3 to $12 an hour for general roles against $7 to $20 in Latin America. What Latin America buys is the shared workday, which is why finance and customer-facing functions move nearshore and overnight processing stays offshore.
  • Do I need a legal entity? No. Staffing partners and EOR platforms employ or contract the person for you. You need an entity only if you want to employ directly at scale, and that is the slowest and most expensive of the four models to set up.

‍

What outsourcing to Latin America actually covers

The phrase gets used for four things that share a region and little else. Managed BPO: a provider such as Auxis or Solvo runs your accounts payable or your support line from its own center with its own employees, and you buy an SLA. Nearshore staffing: a partner such as Vintti recruits one person who joins your team full time, works in your systems and reports to you, while the partner holds the contract and bills monthly. Direct recruiting: the partner finds the person and you employ them. And do-it-yourself: you open an entity or use an employer of record platform and hire directly.

A fifth thing ranks for this search and is not outsourcing at all: company set-up services, where a firm registers your subsidiary, tax IDs and bank accounts in a South American country. That is how you build the do-it-yourself option, not a way to outsource work, and it belongs at the end of this guide, not the start.

The four models compared

Managed BPO Nearshore staffing Direct recruiting Own entity or EOR
What you buy An outcome and an SLA A dedicated person on your team A person you employ Employment infrastructure
Who employs The provider The provider, or a contractor via third-party payroll You You (entity) or the EOR platform
You choose the person Rarely Yes, from a shortlist Yes Yes
Pricing Per FTE or per transaction, mostly unpublished Monthly rate per person One-time fee Salary plus platform fee or entity costs
Time to start Weeks to months of transition 14 to 21 days 2 to 4 weeks plus your onboarding Months for an entity; days for an EOR
Scales down easily By contract Yes, on notice No No
Fits Volume processes: AP, collections, tier-1 support Finance, analysis, ops roles that need judgment Companies with payroll abroad already Ten or more hires in one country

Of the four models, only two get a person working on your team within a month without employment infrastructure abroad: nearshore staffing and an EOR platform. One gives you a vetted shortlist; the other gives you payroll software and leaves the recruiting to you.

Why US companies outsource to Latin America instead of Asia

The reasons the providers publish are the ones buyers repeat. Time zone first: Colombia sits on US Eastern time all year, Mexico on Central, Argentina and Brazil one to two hours ahead of Eastern. The Philippines is 12 to 13 hours ahead, India 9 and a half to 10 and a half. A finance team that needs an answer during the close, or a support team that needs a supervisor awake when the customer calls, cannot buy that from a distant offshore center without someone working nights.

Vintti's sales research with US finance teams keeps surfacing the same complaint about the offshore arrangements they are replacing: the toll of staff working at 3 or 4 in the morning to overlap, and the day lost to every follow-up question.

English proficiency is the second reason, and it varies more by country than by region: Argentina and Costa Rica rank high, Colombia and Mexico produce large bilingual pools in their main cities, and every provider on this page screens for it. Cultural alignment with US business practice, shorter flights for site visits, and lower turnover than saturated offshore markets round out the list. One BPO cites a third-party survey with 87% satisfaction for Latin America shared services against 53% for Asia; treat that as a provider's number, but the direction matches what buyers say.

The head-to-head with the Philippines for accounting firms is in why CPA firms are leaving the Philippines for nearshore LATAM; the broader offshore comparison in read this before hiring in the Philippines.

Time zones, country by country

Country Time vs US Eastern (standard) Daylight saving Notes
Colombia Same None Year-round match with Eastern; the most common source for finance transaction roles
Mexico 1 hour behind (Central) None since 2022 Matches Chicago, Dallas and Houston all year
Argentina 1 hour ahead (2 in summer) None Deep senior finance and engineering pool in Buenos Aires
Brazil 1 hour ahead (2 in summer) None since 2019 Portuguese; largest economy; Sao Paulo and Florianopolis hubs
Costa Rica 1 hour behind (Central) None Long-standing BPO and shared services market
Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala 1 hour behind (Central) None Contact center and back office hubs, bilingual
Dominican Republic Same (1 hour ahead in winter) None Contact centers with US-facing English
Peru Same (1 hour behind in summer) None Growing finance and engineering pool in Lima
Chile, Uruguay 1 to 2 hours ahead Chile yes, Uruguay no Smaller pools, higher salaries, strong English

Providers quantify the overlap differently. Wow Remote Teams publishes 6 to 9 hours of daily overlap with US Eastern for Latin America against 0 to 2 for Asia without shift adjustment. TECLA publishes 4 to 6 hours for engineering teams. Vintti works to a 0 to 2 hour offset for finance roles, which in practice means the accountant is on the same calendar day as the controller.

Which functions US companies outsource to Latin America

What actually moves, by function, and which model it tends to use.

Function Typical model Typical roles Who publishes a price
Finance and accounting Nearshore staffing; managed BPO for AP and collections volume Bookkeeper, AP/AR, staff and senior accountant, controller, FP&A Vintti (placement medians), South (all-in rates), LatHire, Virtual Latinos (assistant level)
Customer support and back office Managed BPO or VA agencies Support agents, intake, virtual and executive assistants Uassist.ME ($1,900+/mo, $7.75/hr BPO), Virtual Latinos ($1,600+/mo), Wow ($12/hr+)
Software and data engineering Staff augmentation with the vendor as employer Full stack, data, DevOps, QA TECLA ($3,500 to $8,000/mo bands), Revelo (annual all-in ranges), Teilur (20% fee)
Sales and marketing support Staffing SDRs, marketing coordinators, designers Wow ($15/hr+), HireLATAM ($3,500 flat recruiting fee)
Legal and healthcare admin Staffing and specialized BPO Legal assistants, intake, medical billing Uassist.ME, Virtual Latinos; Vintti for legal support roles

Finance is where Vintti works: nearshore accounting staffing, with role pages such as hire a bookkeeper, hire a staff accountant and hire a controller. Support and admin roles: nearshore virtual assistants.

What outsourcing to Latin America costs in 2026

Three price tiers coexist and get compared as if they were one.

  • Contact center and assistant seats: Uassist.ME publishes BPO agents from $7.75 an hour and dedicated assistants from $1,900 a month. Virtual Latinos starts at $1,600 a month. Wow Remote Teams from $12 an hour for admin and $15 for finance and sales.
  • Dedicated finance roles: Vintti's placement medians run from $1,650 a month for a staff accountant to $2,950 for an accounting manager, all in.
  • Engineering: TECLA publishes $3,500 to $4,500 for junior, $4,500 to $6,000 for mid-level and $5,500 to $8,000 for senior engineers. Revelo publishes $86,000 to $129,000 a year all in for a senior full-stack developer.
Role Latin America, monthly all-in US fully loaded, monthly Source
Virtual assistant $750 median (Vintti); $1,600 to $2,900 (Virtual Latinos starter tier) $4,333 Vintti cost guide; Virtual Latinos pricing
Bookkeeper $1,800 median $4,750 Vintti cost guide
Staff accountant $1,650 median; $3,335 (South all-in rate) $6,167 Vintti cost guide; South roles page
Accountant, mid-level $2,000 median $6,583 Vintti cost guide
Accounting manager $2,950 median; $6,525 (South) $9,417 Vintti cost guide; South roles page
Controller $3,750 estimate; $6,525 (South) $13,917 Vintti cost guide; South roles page
Senior software engineer $5,500 to $8,000 Varies by market TECLA pricing FAQ
Contact center agent From $7.75/hr Varies by market Uassist.ME pricing

Two things explain most of the spread between providers on the same role. Whether the number is a salary or an all-in rate with the provider's fee, payroll and equipment inside it; and whether the provider publishes its own rate or a market range. Roughly one in three of the 43 providers we audited publishes a price you can compare. The rest publish a savings percentage, and those percentages are often higher than the provider's own rates imply.

The full matrix with sample sizes: nearshore staffing costs in Latin America, 2026 guide. Salary benchmarks behind the rates: accountant salaries, US vs LATAM, bookkeeper salary benchmarks and controller salary benchmarks.

Cost by country: where the same role costs less, and why it is not the whole story

Within Latin America the differences are real but smaller than the gap to the US. Vintti's placement medians show a staff accountant at $1,900 in Colombia and $1,400 in Mexico, a bookkeeper at $1,900 in Colombia, $1,700 in Argentina and $1,550 in Mexico, and an accounting manager at $2,400 in Argentina and $3,400 in Mexico. LatamCent publishes controller salaries of $41,000 to $43,000 a year in Mexico, $45,000 to $51,000 in Brazil and $40,000 to $41,000 in Uruguay. Teilur's published bands put coordinators and analysts at $1,500 to $2,000 a month in Colombia and Argentina and $1,750 to $2,500 in Mexico and Brazil.

The role usually decides the country before price does. Colombia holds the widest pool for transaction roles on Eastern time, and Argentina the deepest senior finance and engineering bench. Mexico is the largest labor market and the natural fit for Central-time teams, while Brazil offers scale and Portuguese. Providers that price the same role identically across countries, as Wow Remote Teams states it does, are pricing the role, not the passport.

Role by role: Colombia vs Argentina vs Mexico for each nearshore F&A role.

Bilingual accounting support: what is actually available

A recurring search from US finance teams is for outsourced accounting with bilingual support in Latin America, and it hides two different needs. If you need English-Spanish capability because you operate in Mexico or serve Hispanic customers, most Latin American providers deliver it by default; Virtual Latinos also screens for Portuguese. If what you need is an accountant who explains a variance to a US controller on a call, the test is the provider's English screen, not the word bilingual. Vintti calibrates that screen to what it calls Houston English: the ability to run the conversation, not a certificate.

How to choose a provider in Latin America

  • Decide the model before the country: Do you want an outcome (BPO), a person on your team (staffing), or a hire you employ (recruiting)? Each has different providers and prices; comparing across them is how buyers end up with a bench when they wanted a colleague.
  • Ask for a published rate or a written quote before the shortlist: Two in three providers publish only a savings percentage. Get the number.
  • Insist on choosing the person: BPO assigns; staffing and recruiting should present a shortlist. Vintti presents 3 to 5 vetted candidates.
  • Ask who the legal employer is, in writing: The same provider can describe its people as contractors on one page and itself as legal employer on another. The contract settles it.
  • Get the replacement policy in days: Windows across the market run from 60 to 180 days; some are open-ended; several providers publish nothing.
  • Test the overlap in hours: Nearshore covers 0 to 2 hours of difference in Latin America and 9 to 13 in Asia under the same label.
  • Check reviews on the platform, not the widget: Uassist.ME publishes 4.6 on Clutch with 33 reviews; Near publishes G2 and Clutch counts; most others show stars without a count.

‍

Vetting: how the good providers screen, and what to ask

The providers that publish a vetting process describe the same four layers with different names: a technical test on the actual work, an English evaluation, a behavioral or psychological interview, and reference and background checks. Pass rates published range from under 1% at large VA communities to about 1 in 8 at Vintti, which screens a narrower finance pool with an HR psychologist in the loop. Ask what the technical test contains for your role: for a staff accountant it should cover reconciliations, accruals and close tasks under US GAAP, not a generic aptitude quiz.

Compliance: who employs the person, and what local law adds to the rate

Employing someone in Latin America brings statutory items that a US finance team does not budget for: a 13th-month payment in Mexico, Argentina and Brazil, a service bonus and a severance fund in Colombia, paid vacation floors that exceed US practice, and mandatory social security and health contributions in every country. Under BPO and staffing models the provider absorbs them inside its rate. Under direct recruiting or an EOR they land on you, either through the platform's monthly fee or your own entity's payroll.

Local holidays are the operational side of the same question. Each country has 12 to 18 public holidays that do not line up with the US calendar; a provider that manages cross-border teams should publish or at least state how it handles them. Vintti's staffing plan manages the contract and payments and lets the team member work the US calendar with the client, with local statutory leave respected; the details are set in the kickoff call rather than discovered in December.

Whether you need an EOR at all: do US companies need an EOR to hire in LATAM and how to hire a nearshore F&A team without an EOR. If you contract directly from the US, the classification tests are in IRS guidance on independent contractor versus employee status.

Risks and how to reduce them

  • The savings claim that is not a rate: Advertised savings of 30% to 80% on the same role from the same provider, with published rates that imply 24% to 54%. Do the arithmetic yourself.
  • The provider that no longer exists: At least one firm that several lists still recommend redirects to its acquirer. Open the site before you shortlist.
  • A bench instead of a person: If you cannot interview and choose, the model is BPO whatever the page says.
  • Undefined employment terms: Contractor or employee, under which country's law, decided in the contract and not on a sales call.
  • Currency and payment: Most providers invoice in USD; confirm it. Direct contractors may want local currency, and exchange controls in Argentina make that a live question.
  • Data access: Role-based access in your accounting stack, NDAs, and a stated off-boarding procedure. Providers with SOC 2 or ISO 27001 publish it; most staffing firms do not hold certifications and rely on your controls.

‍

Onboarding a Latin American team member: the first 30 days

Onboarding is where the model stops mattering and the manager starts. What works in Vintti's placements and in the case studies the BPOs publish: systems access ready on day one, a written calendar of what the person owns and when, a named contact on your side for the first two weeks, and a check-in at day 30 with a short list of what is now theirs. Providers add their own layer; Uassist.ME publishes a four-phase first month and Vintti runs account-manager check-ins on both sides. If the fit is wrong, that is the week to say so: the replacement search should start immediately, at no cost under a staffing plan.

Best outsourcing companies in Latin America, by function

The providers below were audited on their own sites in September 2026. The list is grouped by what each one actually sells, because a BPO and a staffing partner are not substitutes even when they rank for the same search. Vintti appears in the finance group with the same fields as the others.

Setting up your own entity in South America: when it makes sense

The company set-up guides that rank for this search describe a seven-step process: market scoping, entity formation, tax registration, permits, banking, recruitment and payroll, ongoing governance. It is the right path when you plan ten or more hires in one country, want the intellectual property and the employment relationship fully in-house, and can wait the months it takes. Below that scale, an EOR platform gets you legal employment in days at a monthly fee per person, and a staffing partner gets you a vetted, working team member in three weeks without either. Most US finance teams that start with one accountant never need the entity.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best country in Latin America for outsourcing?

It depends on the function. Colombia and Mexico for the widest pools on US time, Argentina for senior finance and engineering, Costa Rica and the Central American hubs for contact centers, Brazil for Portuguese-language operations at scale. For a finance hire, the role usually decides the country.

How much does outsourcing to Latin America cost?

Dedicated finance roles run $1,650 to $2,950 a month all in on Vintti's placement medians, 60% to 74% below the US fully loaded cost. Contact center seats start under $8 an hour; senior engineers $5,500 to $8,000 a month through staff augmentation firms.

Is Latin America cheaper than the Philippines or India?

Rarely per hour: Asia publishes $3 to $12 an hour for general roles against $7 to $20 in Latin America. The difference Latin America sells is the shared workday, 0 to 2 hours from US Eastern against 9 to 13.

What is the difference between nearshore and offshore outsourcing?

Nearshore means a nearby time zone: Latin America for a US company. Offshore means distant: India, the Philippines, Eastern Europe. The label changes the hours of overlap more than the price.

Do I need a legal entity to hire in Latin America?

No. A staffing partner holds the contract for you; an EOR platform employs the person on your behalf. An entity makes sense at ten or more hires in one country.

What are the risks of outsourcing to Latin America?

Providers whose savings claims exceed their published rates, undefined employment terms, benches sold as dedicated staff, and payment in local currency where exchange controls apply. All four are checked before signing, not after.

Which functions are most commonly outsourced to Latin America?

Finance and accounting, customer support and back office, software engineering, and sales and marketing support, with finance the fastest-growing at the dedicated-hire level.

Where can I find bilingual accountants in Latin America?

Through nearshore staffing partners that screen finance candidates on English: Vintti presents 3 to 5 vetted candidates in about a week from Argentina, Colombia and Mexico. VA agencies cover accounting assistants; BPOs cover AP and collections volume.

What are the top outsourcing providers for accounting in Latin America?

For a dedicated accountant on your team, Vintti, South Offices and South; for managed AP and collections, Auxis and Solvo; for assistant-level bookkeeping, Virtual Latinos and Uassist.ME. The 30-provider comparison is in the finance and accounting outsourcing guide linked above.

How do local holidays and benefits work with a Latin American team member?

Each country has 12 to 18 public holidays and statutory items such as a 13th-month payment or a severance fund. Under BPO and staffing the provider absorbs them in the rate; under direct hire or an EOR they are yours. Ask the provider how the team member's calendar is set against yours.

Can a Latin American vendor manage cross-border compliance in Brazil and Argentina?

Providers with their own entities in both, such as Howdy, and EOR platforms can. Staffing partners such as Vintti manage the contract and payments for the roles they place; for a payroll of your own employees across several countries you need an EOR or local entities.

How long does it take to start?

14 to 21 days to a working hire through a staffing partner; Vintti averages 18. BPO transitions run weeks to months. An entity takes months.

What about time zone differences within Latin America?

Colombia matches US Eastern year round; Mexico and Central America match Central; Argentina and Brazil are one to two hours ahead of Eastern. No country in the region is more than two hours from the US Eastern workday.

Is outsourcing to Latin America only for large companies?

No. A single dedicated hire through a staffing partner is the most common entry point for small US firms and accounting practices; BPO programs start to make sense at team scale.

How do I verify a provider's claims?

Open its own site, look for a published rate, a review count on Clutch or G2, a stated replacement policy and a clear answer to who employs the person. Roughly one in three providers publishes a price; treat the rest with care.

What is the difference between outsourcing and staff augmentation?

Outsourcing hands a process to a provider that delivers an outcome. Staff augmentation and nearshore staffing add a person to your team under your direction, with the provider handling the employment side. Vintti does the second.

Which US companies outsource to Latin America?

From startups making a first finance hire to enterprises running shared services centers in Costa Rica and Colombia. The provider case studies name mid-market finance teams, CPA firms, e-commerce brands and SaaS companies most often.

Ready to hire a dedicated team member in Latin America?

‍

Tell Vintti the role and the hours you need covered, and you will meet 3 to 5 vetted candidates within a week, with published cost data for the role. Start at nearshore accounting staffing.

The short version

Outsourcing to Latin America is four different purchases sharing a map. Decide the model first, the country second, and only then compare providers within the model you chose. Ask for a rate, not a savings percentage; for a named person, not a bench; and for the employer's name, in writing. The region's real product is the shared workday, and the providers worth shortlisting are the ones that publish what they charge for it.
